The “Say Their Names” Project

As part of its mission to document and record the people and significant events in our community, the Silver Lake History Collective Committee (SLHC) has created a permanent record of Silver Lake’s response to the issues raised by Black Lives Matter and other groups. Our hope is that this work will give context to anyone seeking information about the groundbreaking ‘Say Their Names’ project in our community.

To that end the SLHC has produced a video about the “Say The Names” project, which was inspired by George Floyd’s death and can be seen on the fences surrounding the Silver Lake Reservoirs.  SLHC Co-chair Cheryl Revkin, with the help of Xochi Maberry Gaulke and Marka Maberry Gaulke, interviewed project creators Micah Woods and Eli Caplan about the memorial and the events that inspired them to do it.

Additionally committee members have documented the entire project through video and stills and compiled a spreadsheet that identifies each of the victims with details about their life and death.
