Jens Kohler
Region 2 Representative
Co-Chair, Community Liaison Committee
Jens Kohler, classical actor, strategic planning consultant, poet, and
dining enthusiast has lived in Silver Lake since 2003.
As a SLNC Governing Board Member, he represents Region 2, and serves on the
Community Liaison Committee, Outreach Committees and Public Safety
Committee. He was also SLNC's alternate representative for the City
Attorney Roundtable Discussion. His trainings and certifications since
becoming a Governing Board member include: Emergency Preparedness
Ambassador Program, Community Emergency Response Team Level One, and Ethics
and Open Government.
In 2006 he organized a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Level One
training in collaboration with community stakeholders at the Dream Center.
He made frequent calls to the city to fill potholes, remove graffiti in
Region 2, and to fix the broken railing on the Bellevue steps. Jens was
also active in weeding and moving mulch for various SLNC Beautification
Committee projects like cleaning up the Gateway to Silver Lake and
Beautification Day.
I
n 2007 he plans to make more stakeholders aware of the city¹s 311 telephone
service so they can get more services out of their local tax dollar. (Try
it! Just call 311 for ANY non-emergency city service‹like graffiti
removal‹or question... including homework questions, kids.) He is
interested in identifying possible affordable housing opportunities in
Region 2.
Jens was born in North Carolina, grew up in Canada, and has a BA in
Religious Studies from McGill University in Montreal and a Masters in
Performing Arts Administration from New York University. He also has a
CBEST--but hasn't had a chance to put it to use yet. He is married to Emily
Johnson (past Co-Chair of the Beautification Committee). This is the second
year of his two-year term. His email is Jens.Kohler@silverlakenc.org
